3 September 2013 –
Thirty recipients who received full scholarships to undertake their post graduate Masters and PhD programme in Maritime Affairs at the World Maritime University in Sweden (facilitated by the South African Maritime Authority, with support from the Department of Higher Education and the Department of Transport) gathered in Pretoria this afternoon (Tuesday) where they were addressed, among others by the SAMSA CEO Tsietsi Mokhele and Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola. The message made loud and clear to the recipients who come from various backgrounds, including one who was a mini bus taxi driver, one who is a soldier, and experts in maritime law and engineering. The message echoed was that the recipients were the ambassadors for South Africa, would be placed in a position to create a positive and compelling image of South Africa, and highlight its successes. The recipients undertook an orientation and team building programme today. Tomorrow (Wednesday) the students would have a meet and greet with the media in the venue below. They will meet the Minister of Transport later in the evening. The meet and greet will take place at:
Venue: Willows Country Lodge (corner Lynwood and Botterklapper roads)
Address: Plot 21, Lynwood Road, The Willows
Lunch will be served.
