FBI Communications is proud to welcome its new client; the Durban Film Office (DFO) aboard one the top media, PR, marketing and communications agency’s in the country. FBI Communications has developed a comprehensive media and marketing strategy that provides a clear focus and leadership for the communication, stakeholder liaison and management to DFO, its partnerships and subsidiaries.

As the film industry development arm of the eThekwini Municipality, DFO is mandated to position Durban as a world-class film production destination and facilitator for the development of the local film industry. A key objective is to drives activity and development in the sector in order to boost tourism, job creation and the development of core skills and SMME’s in the region.

A project born out of a partnership with DFO and the Durban International Film Festival is the Durban FilmMart (DFM); a co-production and finance market for the African film industry, which serves to create a vehicle with the potential to facilitate the development of African film content and ultimately create further business and employment opportunities within the sector. Subsidiaries to DFO include other developmental projects in the film industry; Producers Lab, Durban Film Collectives and Durban Film Partnerships as well as Kumisa; a local body which promotes the interests of musicians living and working in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Key to the development of this strategy is giving DFO a “voice” in promoting its brand as a platform for showcasing the best in African cinema to the global arena, creating developmental opportunities to disadvantaged communities through DFO partnerships ad subsidiaries and establishing DFO and the city of Durban as a world class film production and investment destination

FBI Communications will strive to build and maintain confidence between DFO and its stakeholders in the Film Industry, promote and foster support for DFO’s mandate and strategic vision, improve and facilitate sound communications to internal and external stakeholders through effective and co-ordinated communication, endorse communications as a priority for DFO and market DFO brand to all its stakeholders.
