December 23, 2013: Pavilion, Durban – The Incredible Journey to transform Durban’s iconic Pavilion Shopping Centre is speeding ahead in time for the festive season bringing cheer to shoppers and delight to entertainment seekers.
The Centre is undergoing a massive structural redesign and redevelopment, dubbed the Incredible Journey, as part of its Master Development Plan (MDP) worth approximately R228 million. With changes underway, thousands of shoppers have welcomed the improved centre and tenants have lauded the build which despite the construction, has continued to roll in the regulars and delight the newcomers to the mall.
The new changes are expected to be completed in March 2014. Now we can see on the Via Pareto, all shop fronts have been installed, with higher ceilings and refurbished doors. Scene – Nu Metro’s new luxury cinema and lounge has launched, Parking Level 3 completed and entertainment level escalators installed for easy access to the entertainment level, creating a flow to different areas and levels, and cutting edge designs and upgrades to the restroom and family facilities.
The all new estimated R20 million revamp for the Nu Metro Cinemas can now boast digitally converted projectors offering the latest world class sound and visual experience. Nu Metro can boast 3D sound systems – these are rear and cutting edge technology. The Cinema group has 3 of these systems. One will be installed into The Pavilion, the other two at Hyde Park and Canal Walk malls.
In The Scene, moviegoers can enjoy luxurious fully reclining leather chairs, offering plenty of space to watch your movie in ultimate comfort. Delicious light meals and a range of drinks are also available.
The Pavilion is owned by Pareto Limited and the redevelopment project is managed by Motseng Project Management. Dewald van Staden, managing director of Motseng Project Management was optimistic that the new changes will bring a whole new dimension to entertainment in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
“We have created a hub of entertainment for the young and the old. It provides different things for different people. It provides the The Scene cinema & lounge for those who are looking for an extra special date night, or want the ultimate luxury experience in movie going. The 3D sound cinema for the discerning movie goer, and the new design and architecture is pleasing and a marvel. This is a design feat.”
Van Staden said the build team was steaming ahead for the next stages of the revamp. “In the meantime we offer a secure, safe mall where shoppers can move around with ease and have the confidence that all construction areas are blocked off. This centre is ready for the festive season.”
Nisha Kemraj, General Manager of Pavilion added: “The redesign of the Via Pareto link and the Nu Metro core is world class by nature. Improved vertical circulation, direct customer access, modern design finishes and high class yet fashionable feature points is just a teaser of what is to be unveiled with the Food Court launch in April next year.”
Pavilion celebrates 20 years of existence this year.
“Customers and tenants alike are now anxiously awaiting the roll out of the new section as we have captivated their attention,” said Kemraj
Luke Roberts, Nu Metro Cinemas General Manager said: “Our VIP offering, Scene, is the first of its kind in South Africa on the Nu Metro circuit and a concept that has worked extremely well overseas.”
Construction for the next phase is under way and within months a whole new Pavilion Shopping Centre will occupy the landscape of the N3 freeway.
